Spring break has come and gone, it’s time to buckle down for the last 8 weeks of the semester and finish strong. Hopefully you had a relaxing and safe week away. The next few weeks should continue to bring warmer weather through Winona, which should make outdoor activities much more enjoyable/bearable. Don’t forget to wear your green on Thursday for St. Patrick’s Day! Make time to enjoy some green food, drink a Guinness (if you’re of-age), learn an Irish jig, or brush up on some Irish vernacular to celebrate. Ultimately, we hope you aren’t “acting the maggot” by being “on me tod” this Thursday…call up your friends, ask them “what’s the craic?” and know that “two people shorten the road”. All these Irish phrases are now at your disposal.

This Week in Winona
March 15th: 5:00-9:00pm: March Meet-Up: Indoor Rock climbing at the Wabasha Recreation Center: Join the Winona Outdoor Collaborative for indoor rock climbing at the Wabasha Recreation Center! Get ready for outdoor climbing this spring by putting your skills to the test at the OERC’s climbing wall.
No experience is necessary! All skill levels are encouraged to join. Meet at the Wabasha Recreation Center at 5:00 PM on Tuesday March 15. This is an open house event; stop by anytime and stay as long as you’d like!
Masks are required for entry and are to be worn throughout the entire duration. Bring a water bottle & invite a friend!
Price: $10 per person – includes entry and equipment for those without a membership.
March 16th: 6:00-8:00pm: Live Music: Sugar Lads at Blooming Grounds Coffee House: This dynamic group comes together to play some rockin’ tunes, every 3rd Wednesday of the month! Singer/guitarists Isaac Yanta and Duncan Wellcome are joined by drummer/guitarist Andrew Head, bassist Kallista Mathias, and saxophonist Nick Buban to crank out some classic covers and goofy originals. This crew will have you laughing and grooving all night long.
Stop in and enjoy a fresh hot pizza or one of Blooming Grounds new featured appetizers during this set!
March 18th: 7:00pm: Winona Film Society: Minari: at Winona Arts Center: Directed by Lee Issac Chung, this is a tender and sweeping story about what roots us. It follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American dream. The family changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed but incredibly loving grandma. Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.
If you would like to stop down earlier the Coffeehouse will be open at 6:00pm.
March 19th: 7:30pm: Winona Symphony Spring Concert at Wesley United Methodist Church (114 W Broadway): Boasting Winona’s own celebrated piano soloist, Deanne Mohr, this concert showcases two beloved standards of the classical canon. Admired and popular, passionate and virtuosic, Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 are considered some of the composers’ finest works.
